Love of Worldly Things

"Our idolatrous love of worldly things is a chief
cause of our knowing so little of spiritual things.

Because we love this and that so
much, we love Christ so little.

You can not fill your life-cup from the pools of earth,
and yet have room in it for the crystal streams of heaven."

--C. H. Spurgeon from the sermon, "The Heaven of Heaven"

I have taken the time to look at some of Robb Bell's comments on the internet. I am amazed at his shredding of the Bible. He states that Jesus was angry at poverty. The only time I really see Jesus angry is at the temple, where the world had invaded and set up shop. The priest were pressing the people with the law and making them payoff with their money and a visual of good works. Kind of like how Robb Bell has invaded the church and set up shop. But Robb isn't selling anything, he's stealing. No wonder his name is Robb.

Doesn't Jesus say, in Matthew 25, to people who would ignore poverty that they were cursed and would be cast into the eternal fire prepared for the Devil and his angels? Sounds pretty angry to me.

Doesn't Jesus say in Matthew that people who disregard poverty will be cast out into the flames prepared for the Devil and his angels? that sounds pretty angry to me.

No, that doesn't sound angry to me. It just sounds like fact and Jesus is just stating the facts. Patrick, you are the one imposing your emotions onto Jesus Christ. Christians have been feeding and clothing the hungry way before these antichristians showed up on the scene. If anyone changes the Gospel to suit himself and his wallet, this person will suffer very dire consequences. Patrick, I know everyone who reads your post is praying for you. I have no doubt. We are talking about human souls here that are on the line. These antichrist leaders can feed trillions of people but if their soul isn't right with God, they are going to burn in Hell like all unsaved sinners. Consider my words and look at the big picture. Jesus also states that the poor will always be with you. Patrick another thing, Jesus is coming back to set His kingdom up. This is prophesy we are talking about. These false leaders you try to defend believe that His kingdom is complete now and it is up to us to set things straight. I've read their writing and I've listened to their interviews. These leaders are weak and satan is among them. Read your Bible Patrick. Read Revelations.

Hey Patrick,
How come is it that when I try to blog on Tony Jones's websites or Robb Bell's websites, they will not publish my replies? Anyone who wants to publish on this website can, as long is there no profanity. Kenny Oliver is a little more magnanimous than these two antichrists. Absolutely no opposing views will be published on these antichrists's websites. The truth Patrick is the Emergent church is satan's right hand. I'm not judging these Emergents, the the Holy Word of God is. Listen to what they are saying Patrick. You shall no the truth and the truth shall set you free. Jesus says that His sheep will know His voice. If someone comes into His flock but not by the gate that the sheep will know and reject this liar. Patrick, the emergent church isn't entering by the gate Bud. They have jumped the fence and are trying to take Christ's sheep to the slaughter. By their fruit you will know them. Patrick, their fruit is poison. Don't drink the Emergent Koolaid Patrick. Get out an save your soul from eternal damnation Patrick.

You'll have to ask Rob Bell or Tony Jones why you can't post on their sites. I have no connection to either one of them or any insight into their websites. I'm only peripherally familiar with Rob Bell (read about half of one of his books and seen a couple of his videos) and I have no idea who Tony Jones is.

You, like a lot of folks on this site, can't seem to distinguish between people who disagree with your reasoning and people who line up behind Rob Bell or other "emergents."

And personally, I still think calling people goats, telling them to depart from you, and casting them into eternal flame for ignoring the poor indicates Jesus was pretty angry at poverty. If you don't, then that's fine. I'd imagine it's not the only place you and I interpret scripture differently. To hold that point of view up as "shredding the scriptures" seems a little loaded to me.

Also, when Jesus said the poor will always be with us that wasn't an admonition against trying to address their needs anymore than an admission of man's sinful nature is an excuse not to avoid temptation. He was specifically talking to his disciples when they objected to Mary anointing his feet with costly oil. Implying that those verses somehow represent a casual attitude towards the poor on Jesus' part is ghastly. I hope that's not what you were doing.

You are WRONG Patrick when you said: "...casting them into eternal flame for ignoring the poor..."

Jesus will not cast anyone into hell for ignoring the poor. He sends them to hell because he says: "Depart from me for I never KNEW you". Read the text in full. Don't be fooled into believing that you have a ticket into heaven because you feed the poor. Salvation is not of works at all, not of yourselves at all. It is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.

I certainly don't think that feeding the poor will get me into heaven. The only thing that will get me into heaven is God's grace and Jesus sacrifice as you say.

However, to those in the verse who are being cast into Hell, when their sins are laid before them, the sins Jesus chooses to mention are their disregard for the poor. Which I bring up just to reinforce the idea that one could extrapolate from the verses that Jesus was angry at poverty:

Matthew 25:41"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

42For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink,

43I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'

44"They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?'

45"He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'

46"Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."
