Willow Creek's Deliberate "SHIFT" Toward Emergent

These are snapshots from Willow Creek's 2008 SHIFT Youth Conference website where they seem to be rushing full throttle toward Emergent and Contemplative persuasions via their youth.

Here is the opening page which states (in McLarenesque fashion) "a new kind of event for the shifting world of youth ministry"

Here is your line up of Emergent speakers:

The brochure for the conference starts off with this Brian McLaren quote:

Here is the video section displaying a couple from Brian McLaren, one from Shane Claiborne, and one from Youth Specialties' Contemplative proponent Mark Yaconelli:

You will also get to preview emergent Rob Bell's latest Nooma video:

The conference wouldn't be complete without sending the kids off with some Emergent books to indoctrinate them further for years to come:

"But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea."
-Matthew 18:6

Are you saying these people are teaching error? I don't see it here.

I would recommend viewing some of the sites liked here to learn how and where these speakers are in error and in some cases heretical. Also take a look at the posts on thinkerup concerning these guys. "Brian McLaren's Unorthodox Quotes" is a good start.

Yes, they're teaching error. It's written into their slogans, into the advertisements. You don't even need to go any further.

They are WRONG when they say..."Everything must change", a time for re-thinking, re-imagining, etc. NO! It is a time for REPENTING! The answers are the same today as they were yesterday. The answers are to repent and present yourselves as living sacrifices to God, to teach, preach pray and wait on the Holy Spirit to do His work with His ordained methods, NOT man's methods. Preach the Gospel in season and out.

There is NO different meaning in today's world to being a true "follower of God in the way of Jesus" as McClaren said. This is deceptive talk from these guys to prop themselves up as the experts so that they can sell books, be admired and lure thousands to their conferences to keep the machine going. Read Jeremiah 23 and you will see this clearly.

Great post. So this is how Willow Creek repents and changes direction. (They recently admitted they were doing things all wrong.)

I think their compass is out more than a few degrees.
