FIVE SOLAS Translation

"1. Sola Scriptura (Scripture alone). Translation: Don’t bore me with the latest Church Growth/Self-help/Goal setting manual. Not interested, won’t read it. Only clear Biblical doctrine is important to my faith.

2. Solus Christus (Christ alone). Translation: Salvation is in Christ alone, the Christ of Scripture. No social gospel, no works based “servant evangelism”, just the genuine Jesus of the Bible, period.

3. Sola fide (Faith alone). Translation: I’m not interested in methodologies, only the one given by Christ, “go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature.”

4. Sola gratia (Grace alone). Translation: Salvation is only by His grace, not new-age meditation, not purpose-driven works, not numbers based strategies. Just God's grace.

5. Soli Deo gloria (For God’s glory alone) Translation: Don’t bother me with politics, church or secular. If you want to wield authority, if you want to “build the kingdom”, if you want to play church, if you want to discuss modern culture, I'm simply not interested because God’s Word is timeless and unaffected by all these things. He will establish His kingdom and it is not of this earth. And all things exist solely for His glory."

Kenny and all,
Pray for Paul Walker. He is in the heat of the battle right now. He is in Grand Junction, where Kent Shirley is the Director of Missions for the Southern Baptist Convention in that area. You may or may not know Kent Shirley has been pushing the Emergent Obfuscation hard. As a result, Walker has been battling against that and some want him fired.

This evening at 7p.m. Mountain time, there will be a business meeting and the coup may be attempted then. That time is 9 Eastern, 8 Central, 7 Mountain, and 6 Pacific. So pray before then and then.

I just talked to him yesterday. He is sad the SBC seems to be going down the tubes, but he also seems joyful in the Lord and trusting. He told me just how little he cares what the enemy thinks of him. We both laughed and reminded each other of the freedom that comes from not caring about the approval of people.

To see just how viscious Kent Shirley is, he sent Pastor Walker a condescending letter recommending that he get psychological treatment. The language of the letter made an attempt to appear helpful, but it was obviously meant to hurt and it just dripped with sarcasm and contempt.

I plan to post that letter and tell Paul's story. Or you can call or write him. He's an awesome warrior for Jesus!

Pray for him--I know you will.

God bless you, Kenny. I know you're a fellow-warrior, too. Can't wait to see you in heaven.

In Christ,
Phil Perkins.

Phil:

This is Keith, Kenny's twin brother who is also helping with thinkerup.

I am aware of some of the problems Paul Walker is facing from reading Ken Silva's recent articles.

I'll be sure to join in and pray for Paul and his effectiveness too.

Thanks for all the good, solid biblical insight!

As a member of the SBC, I am saddened by this issue. Apparently the SBC is going the way of post-modern fluff.
Many denominations have struggled with liberalism, however the struggle against postmodernism is somewhat different in type. The new progressive religious leaders are often not sure of their beliefs -- except for a social agenda. Many postmodern missions are weighed down by White Guilt or Social Gospel, to the exclusion or reduction of the true Gospel. I have seen missions organizations talk about poverty, social exclusion, and economic development rather than saving souls. Apparetnly these new 'progressives' are reluctant to preach Absolute Truth. Poo on them!

Great meeting you, Brother. Now I will know who KCO is. I just recently realized KCO was not Kenny.

(I'm old. I catch on slowly at times!)

God bless both of you,
Phil Perkins.

Phil,
I didn't know there were Baptists who still are still fighting the good fight , contending for the truth ,, I thought most of them have gotten soft and gave into the pressure of the world. You could always count on the Baptist , they weren't afraid to tell the whole gospel , the good and bad news, they would just tell you " REPENT.. God died for your SINS ( they would even name your sins) believe on Him, He is the ONLY way and you will be SAVED .. if you do not REPENT you will go to HELL forever in HELL." It was clear. It was great.
Phil, I will pray for Paul Walker even though it is late the Lord is not limited by time.
Phil, it is great to see ones like you who are strong and not afraid to stand up for the Truth ..it is encouraging.
There is so much garbage being accepted in the "church" that it makes me not like the people who are responsible ..I know the Lord wants me to pray for them , for them to repent. I know who is the real enemy , it's just you expect not to hear the things that are coming out of the mouths of the " christian leaders" but then maybe these people really are not christians ,, maybe they are just posers trying to derail the gospel and divide the church . Maybe they are totally deceived by the one who is responsible and they are just ego maniacs that love to hear themselves talk and love to see themselves at the top of the best sellers list.
Anyway, it is good to see men that are not afraid to stand up for the Word of God and fight. Keep up the fight.
Thanks , Mike O.

Mike O,
Thanks for the encouragement. And thanks for your faithfulness, too.
I wonder if God didn't send us the internet so that the few in the remnant would be encouraged.

I hear and feel your sadness. BUT God IS FAITHFUL! Don't despair. Our redemption is near.

One thing, and then I will stop clogging up Kenny and Keith's website:
Whatever the price, I have NEVER regretted taking a stand on biblical principle. Yes, the arrows hurt, but God is faithful and folks like all of you help me to be encouraged.

In the Majestic God of Scripture, in Whose Presence there is no darkness,
Phil Perkins.
